Charcot's triad

The classic three cardinal signs consisting of right upper quadrant abdominal pain, fever with chills, and jaundice due to biliary obstruction and infection of the extrahepatic bile ducts.

The underlying causes of ascending cholangitis:

• Choledocholithiasis

• Biliary stricture

• Malignancy: Pancreatic cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, ampullary carcinoma

• ERCP
