Elevated CSF protein
An abnormal increase in total cerebrospinal fluid protein concentration above the reference range (typically >45-60 mg/dL), indicating disruption of the blood-brain or blood-CSF barrier and/or intrathecal protein synthesis in central nervous system pathology. Possible causes are infections (meningitis, encephalitis, neurosyphilis), Guillain-Barré syndrome, multiple sclerosis, brain tumor, CNS trauma, brain hemorrhage, Froin's syndrome, and diabetes.
