Hypersonor bowel sounds

Excessively loud, resonant, and often high-pitched intestinal auscultatory sounds reflecting increased intraluminal gas and markedly increased bowel motility.

• Mechanical intestinal obstruction

  • Tumors causing luminal narrowing

• Infectious and inflammatory causes

  • Gastroenteritis

  • Infectious diarrhea

  • Crohn's disease

  • Ulcerative colitis

• Irritable bowel syndrome

• Dietary and allergic causes

  • Food allergy

  • Food intolerance

  • Lactose intolerance

  • Excessive intake of gas-producing foods

• Laxative use

• Increased sympathetic stimulation or stress-related bowel activity

• Hyperthyroidism causing increased gastrointestinal motility
