Jaw claudication

Chewing-induced muscle ischemia causing jaw pain and jaw fatigue.

It is caused by reduced blood flow to the jaw muscles, most frequently from:

  • Inflammation: Giant Cell Arteritis/temporal arteritis, Takayasu's arteritis, polyarteritis nodosa

  • Atherosclerosis of the external carotid artery

  • Myasthenia gravis is a non-vascular mimic
