Joint effusion

Abnormal accumulation of intra-articular fluid within a synovial joint cavity, producing joint swelling, pain, and restricted range of motion. Possible causes are trauma, inflammation (rheumatoid arthritis, SLE), gout, infection (septic arthritis), or degenerative arthropathy.
