Onychomadesis
The complete shedding or loss of a nail starting from the base near the cuticle.
Common causes:
Viral infections: Hand, foot, and mouth disease, chickenpox, enteroviruses
Physical trauma: Direct injury or crushing of the nail bed or matrix, tight footwear
Medications: Chemotherapy, antiepileptics, retinoids
Systemic illnesses: Fever, severe metabolic stress, Kawasaki disease, pemphigus vulgaris
