Osteomyelitis

An inflammation or swelling of bone and bone marrow, usually caused by a bacterial or fungal infection, that may lead to necrosis and structural destruction of bone tissue. Possible causes are hematogenous dissemination of pathogens, trauma that introduce bacteria directly to the bone tissue, and iatrogenic osteomyelitis due to surgical procedures.
