Pyelonephritis
Bacterial infection causing inflammation of the renal pelvis and renal parenchyma, usually ascending from a lower urinary tract infection and potentially leading to renal scarring, impaired function, and systemic sepsis. Possible causes are urinary tract infection, vesicoureteral reflux, urinary obstruction (kidney stone, BPH), urinary catheter, pregnancy and immunosuppression.
