Quincke's sign

The visualization of capillary pulsations as alternating blanching (whitening) and reddening of the nail bed during light compression, synchronized with the heartbeat, reflecting increased pulse pressure and hyperdynamic arterial pulsations.

Causes

• Severe aortic regurgitation: Widened pulse pressure

• High-output states

  • Anemia

  • Hyperthyroidism

  • Pregnancy

  • Liver cirrhosis

  • Arteriovenous fistula

  • Beriberi (thiamine deficiency)

• Connective tissue disorders

  • Marfan syndrome

  • Ehlers–Danlos syndrome
