Scleritis

A severe, painful, immune-mediated inflammation of the sclera, potentially leading to scleral thinning, ocular complications, and vision loss. Frequently associated with systemic autoimmune disease (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, granulomatosis with polyangiitis), infections (bacteria, viruses/Herpes Zoster/shingles, fungi, parasites), trauma/surgery, idiopathic, and medications (bisphosphonates).
