Subungual hematoma
A collection of blood between the nail bed and nail plate, causing painful nail discoloration due to increased subungual pressure.
Causes
Trauma to the distal phalanx: Crush injury or tight footwear
Coagulopathy or anticoagulant therapy
Subungual melanoma
