Tenosynovitis

Inflammation of a tendon sheath involving the synovial lining and synovial fluid, typically presenting with localized pain, swelling, tenderness, and impaired tendon gliding or movement.

Causes

• Repetitive tendon overuse and strain injury

• Autoimmune and inflammatory causes

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)

  • Psoriatic arthritis

• Metabolic causes

  • Diabetes mellitus

  • Gout (urate crystal deposition)

  • Thyroid disorders

• Infectious causes

  • Bacterial infection

  • Animal bites

  • Thorn pricks

  • Contaminated cuts or puncture wounds
