Thickened rugae

Hypertrophic enlargement of the normal mucosal folds (rugae) in the gastric body due to hyperplasia, inflammation, infiltration, or excessive acid stimulation.

Causes

  • Gastric mucosal disorders

    • Ménétrier disease

    • Chronic gastritis (NSAID-induced)

    • Helicobacter pylori infection

    • Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection

  • Malignant causes

    • Gastric cancer

    • Gastric lymphoma

  • Zollinger–Ellison syndrome

  • Crohn's disease

  • Amyloidosis
