Thumbprint sign
Radiologic sign in which markedly thickened, edematous mucosal folds in the large intestine (a sign of severe colitis/intestinal ischemia) or a swollen epiglottis produce rounded, thumb-like soft-tissue projections on plain radiographs (associated with acute epiglottitis).
