Achlorhydria

The pathological absence of hydrochloric acid in gastric juice, resulting in markedly reduced or absent gastric acid secretion and impaired intragastric digestion.

Possible causes:

• Atrophic gastritis

• H. pylori infection

• Pernicious anemia

• Long-term acid-suppressive therapy
