Asthenia

A pathological state of generalized physical weakness and diminished strength, often accompanied by easy fatigability and reduced capacity for sustained muscular or mental effort.

Causes

• Systemic conditions: Anemia, vitamin B-12 deficiency, hypothyroidism, heart/lung diseases, diabetes, sleep apnea

• Neurologic conditions: Chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis

• Psychiatric conditions: Stress, burnout, depression and anxiety

• Sedentary lifestyle

• Drugs side effect: β-blockers, antidepressants, loop diuretics, chemotherapy, radiation therapy
