Babinski reflex

A reflex elicited by firm stimulation of the lateral sole causing dorsiflexion of the hallux with or without fanning of the lesser toes, indicating corticospinal (upper motor neuron) dysfunction if present beyond early childhood and in adults.

  • Spinal cord disc herniation

  • Spinal cord tumor

  • Neurodegenerative disease (ALS)

  • Brain injury

  • Brain tumor

  • CNS infection: Meningitis or encephalitis
