Buffalo hump

A localized dorsocervical fat pad, characterized by abnormal adipose tissue accumulation over the upper thoracic spine and posterior neck.

Causes

  • Hypercortisolism (Cushing syndrome)

  • Lipodystrophy

  • Certain antiretroviral therapies

  • Exogenous glucocorticoid exposure

  • Genetics
