Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

A compressive neuropathy of the median nerve within the carpal tunnel at the wrist, characterized by paresthesias, pain, and possible thenar weakness or atrophy in the median nerve distribution of the hand.

Causes

• Swelling: Pregnancy, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, hypothyroidism, injury

• Repetitive motions

• Genetics (smaller carpal tunnel anatomy)
