Cerebral infarction

An ischemic necrosis of brain parenchyma resulting from prolonged reduction or interruption of cerebral blood flow, producing a focal, permanent neurologic deficit corresponding to the affected vascular territory.

Causes

  • Thrombotic or embolic arterial occlusion

  • Systemic hypoperfusion

  • Cerebral atherosclerosis
