Subnormal circulating growth hormone levels leading to abnormalities in linear growth (in children) and adverse effects on body composition, metabolism, and bone density (in adults).

  • Men: < 5 ng/mL (226 pmol/L)

  • Women: < 10 ng/mL (452 pmol/L)

Causes

  • Hypothalamic or pituitary disease

    • Pituitary tumor

    • Trauma

    • Radiation

    • Surgery

  • Central nervous system (CNS) infection

  • Genetic defects
