Dense metaphyseal lines

Highly visible, white, sclerotic calcification lines that appear on X-rays at the metaphysis (the wider, growing portion of a long bone).

    • Malnutrition

    • Sickle cell disease

    • Thalassemia

  • Heavy metal intoxication

  • Rickets

    • Vitamin D deficiency

    • Calcium deficiency

  • Osteopetrosis

  • Leukemia

  • Medications

    • Chemotherapy

    • Methotrexate

    • Bisphosphonates

  • Normal variation in newborns
