Enophthalmos

A posterior displacement of the eyeball within the bony orbit, resulting in a sunken or recessed ocular appearance.

Causes

  • Orbital fracture

  • Age-related changes: Orbital fat atrophy

  • Silent sinus syndrome

  • Scarring and fibrosis: Previous orbital surgery, scleroderma

  • Malignancy: Orbital tumor

  • Congenital orbital asymmetry
