Fat macroglobulinemia

The presence of large fat globules in the circulating blood, typically detected as part of the laboratory evaluation for fat embolism syndrome. Possible causes are fractures (long bones, pelvis), orthopedic surgery, lipo suction, corticosteroid therapy, bone marrow transplants, intravenous lipid infusion, severe acute pancreatitis, sickle cell crisis, severe burns, and alcoholic fatty liver disease.
