High-riding testis

Abnormally cephalad position of the testis within the hemiscrotum or at the external inguinal ring.

Causes

• Twisted spermatic cord associated with acute testicular torsion

• Bell Clapper deformity causing increased testicular mobility/torsion

• Hyperactive cremaster muscle

• Congenital abnormalities of testicular fixation

• Inguinal hernia causing displacement of the testis toward the inguinal canal

• Post-surgical scar tissue formation after previous inguinal or scrotal surgery

• Undescended testicle (cryptorchidism)
