Homan's sign

Calf pain elicited by passive dorsiflexion of the foot with the knee extended, historically regarded as an unreliable indicator of deep venous thrombosis of the lower extremity. Other possible causes are gastrocnemius muscle spasm, ruptured Baker's cyst, sciatica nerve compression, intervertebral disc herniation, cellulitis, and thrombophlebitis.
