Hot potato voice
A muffled voice that resembles a person trying to speak while protecting their tongue from a mouthful of extremely hot food, often associated with trismus and odynophagia. Possible causes are tonsillitis, peritonsillar/retropharyngeal/parapharyngeal abscess, epiglottitis, lymphoma with tonsillar hypertrophy, and foreign body obstruction.
