Hypochlorhydria

A deficiency of hydrochloric acid (HCl) in the stomach causing low gastric acidity.

Possible causes:

  • Medications: PPI, H2-blockers, antacids

  • Infection (Helicobacter pylori)

  • Autoimmune atrophic gastritis

  • Aging

  • Bariatric surgery
