Hyponosmia

A pathological reduction in the sense of smell, characterized by decreased olfactory sensitivity due to dysfunction of the olfactory neuroepithelium, olfactory bulb, central olfactory pathways, or related structures. Possible causes are sinusitis, nasal polyps, deviated septum, allergic rhinitis, common cold, the flu, COVID-19, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, trauma to the nose/olfactory nerve, aging, smoking tobacco, toxic chemicals, cocaine, medications (certain antibiotics, antihistamines, antidepressants), malnutrition, hormonal imbalances, and type 1 diabetes.
