Left atrial dilation

A pathological enlargement of the left atrial chamber (Left Atrial Volume Index > 38 mL/m² or Linear Left Atrial Diameter > 4.1 cm), often associated with increased risk of atrial fibrillation and thromboembolic events. Possible causes are chronic pressure or volume overload due to heart failure, hypertension, mitral valve regurgitation/stenosis, and diastolic dysfunction.
