Loss of P wave

A finding on an electrocardiogram (ECG) indicating the absence of atrial depolarization due to abnormal electrical activity of the heart's upper chambers (atria).

Common causes:

  • Atrial fibrillation

  • Atrial flutter

  • Sinus arrest

  • P wave hidden in the QRS complex (junctional or AV nodal tachycardias)

  • Hyperkalemia

  • Technical issue: Loose, wrong, or poorly placed skin sensors
