Symptom
Mucositis
The painful inflammation and often ulceration of the oral and gastrointestinal mucous membranes, leading to impaired oral intake, and increased risk of infection. Possible causes are cytotoxic chemotherapy, radiotherapy, poor oral hygiene, infections, dehydration, immune deficiency, and lifestyle factors (tobacco, excessive alcohol consumption, excessive hot, spicy, or acidic foods).
