Proctitis

Inflammation of the rectal mucosa, often involving the anal canal, characterized by erythema, edema, and possible ulceration, typically presenting with rectal pain, bleeding, tenesmus, and mucous discharge. Possible causes are Sexually Transmitted Infections (gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes simplex virus, syphilis, mpox), infectious colitis (salmonella, shigella, campylobacter, clostridioides difficile), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis), radiotherapy, physical trauma, chemical irritation (enema), and food allergy (milk, soy-based formula).
