Renal cyst

A fluid-filled, epithelial-lined sac arising within or on the renal parenchyma.

Causes

  • Benign age-related simple renal cyst

  • Genetic polycystic kidney disease

  • Acquired cystic kidney disease due to long-term damage/obstruction

    • Long-standing urinary tract obstruction

    • Chronic kidney disease

    • Long-term dialysis-associated cystic change
