Saddle nose deformity

A collapse and depression of the nasal dorsum caused by loss of structural support from the nasal septum and/or upper lateral cartilage, producing a characteristic saddle-shaped nasal profile and potentially causing nasal obstruction, pain, or cosmetic concerns.

• Traumatic causes

  • Nasal fracture

  • Septal hematoma

  • Septal cartilage damage

• Iatrogenic causes

  • Over-aggressive rhinoplasty

  • Septal surgery complications

• Drugs: Intranasal cocaine abuse (ischemic cartilage destruction)

• Autoimmune and inflammatory causes

  • Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Wegener granulomatosis)

  • Relapsing polychondritis

• Infectious causes

  • Syphilis

  • Leprosy

• Malignancy involving the nasal septum
