Stria

Narrow, linear, and often slightly depressed bands on the skin resulting from disruption and thinning of the dermal connective tissue, typically following rapid tissue expansion or impaired collagen integrity.

Causes

• Mechanical causes

  • Obesity

  • Rapid muscle hypertrophy

  • Pregnancy

  • Rapid growth during puberty

• Hypercortisolism (Cushing syndrome)

• Medication-related causes

  • Systemic corticosteroid therapy

  • Prolonged topical corticosteroid use

• Genetic disorders

  • Marfan syndrome

  • Ehlers–Danlos syndrome
