Synechia

Pathological adhesion between normally separate adjacent anatomical structures due to inflammatory tissue injury with abnormal healing and fibrosis.

Causes

• Ocular synechiae

  • Uveitis / iritis

  • Eye trauma

  • Postoperative scarring

  • Eye infections

  • Glaucoma

• Other types of synechiae

  • Uterine synechiae (intrauterine adhesions/Asherman syndrome)

  • Vulvar synechiae

  • Nasal synechiae

  • Vocal cord synechiae
