Thrombocytosis

An abnormal increase in circulating platelet count (>450 × 10³/μL), and is associated with an elevated risk of thrombotic events. Possible causes are inflammation, infection, hemorrhage, iron deficiency, trauma (major surgery, severe burns), splenectomy, myeloproliferative neoplasm such as essential thrombocythemia, and malignancy (lung/GI/ovarian cancer).
