Torticollis

An abnormal, twisted, and tilted position of the head and neck caused by involuntary muscle tightness or spasms.

Common causes:

  • Congenital factors: A short sternocleidomastoid muscle from the womb position or birth injury

  • Mechanical strain: Sleeping wrong, sudden movements, poor posture

  • Infections & inflammation: Swollen lymph nodes or throat/ear infections

  • Medication side effects: Anti-nausea or antipsychotic drugs

  • Neurological issues: Abnormal brain signals controlling local muscle groups (idiopathic cervical dystonia)
