Flat nasal bridge

Flattening or decreased projection of the bony nasal dorsum at the nasofrontal region, resulting in reduced nasal bridge height on profile view.

Causes

• Genetic and ethnic variations

  • Normal anatomical variation in individuals of East Asian ancestry

  • Familial nasal morphology differences

• Nasal trauma

• Infectious and inflammatory disorders

  • Congenital syphilis

  • Relapsing polychondritis

  • Chronic inflammatory destruction of nasal cartilage

• Rickets

• Intranasal substance abuse causing cartilage destruction

• Congenital craniofacial disorder: Binder syndrome (maxillonasal dysplasia)

• Genetic conditions with congenital craniofacial syndromes

  • Down syndrome

  • Williams syndrome
