Hypocapnia

A state of decreased partial pressure of carbon dioxide in arterial blood (PaCO₂ <4.6kPa or <35 mmHg), most often due to alveolar hyperventilation and commonly associated with respiratory alkalosis. Possible causes are anxiety, stress, asthma, pneumonia, high altitude, pain, fever, metabolic acidosis, pregnancy, and mechanical ventilation.
