Mediastinal shift
The abnormal displacement of mediastinal structures (trachea, heart, great vessels) toward one hemithorax, typically detected on chest imaging, indicating significant asymmetry of intrathoracic pressure or volume due to underlying thoracic pathology. Possible causes are tension pneumothorax, pleural effusion, atelectasis, lobectomy/pneumonectomy, and large tumor/cyst.
