Symptom
Snoring
Noisy, vibratory respiration occurring during sleep, typically caused by turbulent airflow and vibration of the soft palate, uvula, and oropharyngeal tissues. Often associated with partial upper airway obstruction and sleep-disordered breathing. Possible causes are anatomic factors (thick soft palate, an elongated uvula, enlarged tonsils/adenoids, or an unusually large tongue narrows the throat), nasal obstruction (chronic congestion, nasal polyps, deviated nasal septum), drugs (alcohol and sleeping pills relaxes throat muscles, increasing airway collapse), obesity adds excess fat tissue that compresses the airway, sleeping position (tongue may block airways), and sleep deprivation.
