Thrombophlebitis

Inflammation of a vein associated with intraluminal thrombus formation, typically involving superficial or deep veins of the extremities, and may present with localized pain, erythema, induration, and risk of extension to deep venous thrombosis or embolic complications. Possible causes are prolonged inactivity, vein damage, varicose veins, heart failure, genetic blood-clotting disorder, smoking, estrogen therapy, and pregnancy.
