Cold intolerance

An abnormal hypersensitivity to cold exposure, characterized by disproportionate discomfort or pain, often with paresthesia, stiffness, weakness, or color change of affected parts.

Causes

  • Peripheral vascular disease (Raynaud phenomenon, atherosclerosis)

  • Endocrine imbalance (hypothyroidism, hypothalamic dysfunction)

  • Hematologic disorders (anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency)

  • Low body mass index (lack of natural insulation)

  • Malnutrition
