Conjunctival injection

Red eye caused by the widening of blood vessels on the surface of the eye.

Causes

  • Infections and Inflammation

    • Viral conjunctivitis

    • Bacterial conjunctivitis

    • Blepharitis

    • Keratitis or Corneal Ulcers

  • Allergies and Irritants

    • Allergic reactions: Pollen, dust, or pet dander

    • Environmental irritants: Smoke, smog, or chemical splashes

    • Dry eye syndrome: Lack of proper tear film leading to surface irritation

  • Trauma and Other Conditions

    • Foreign body or abrasion

    • Subconjunctival hemorrhage: Ruptured blood vessel

    • Glaucoma
