Courvoisier's sign

A palpable, painless, distended gallbladder in a patient with obstructive jaundice, indicating a high likelihood of distal extrahepatic biliary obstruction.

Causes

• Pancreatic cancer

• Cholangiocarcinoma

• Ampullary carcinoma

• External compression of the bile duct due to lymphoma

• External compression of the bile duct due to metastatic disease

• Non-cancerous distal biliary stricture
