Decreased MCV

A reduction of mean corpuscular volume (MCV) below the normal range (typically <80 fL in adults), indicating reduced average red blood cell size and representing a microcytic pattern of anemia.

Causes

  • Iron deficiency anemia

  • Thalassemia

  • Anemia of chronic disease

  • Lead poisoning

  • Sideroblastic anemia
