Esophageal stricture

Pathologic, often segmental narrowing of the esophageal lumen leading to fixed mechanical obstruction and progressive dysphagia, with risk of food impaction and associated motility disturbance proximal to the lesion. Possible causes are chronic inflammation (GERD, esinophilic esophagitis, corrosive ingestion, scleroderma), fibrosis (radiotherapy), esophageal cancer, or injury (endoscopy).
