Hirsutism

Excessive, androgen-dependent terminal hair growth in women in a male-pattern distribution (face, chest, linea alba, back), usually reflecting hyperandrogenism or increased pilosebaceous follicle sensitivity to androgens. Possible causes are polycystic ovary syndrome, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, cushing syndrome, medications (anabolic steroids, minoxidil), and androgen-releasing tumors in the ovaries or adrenal glands.
